I rearchitected the weather widgets so they will load asynchronously and not delay the loading of the parent page.   I also added output level caching to get them to load even faster.

What are you waiting for… you know you want one!

New stuff!

  • International data for most major cities worldwide
  • New icons including night specific ones designed by Ruben van Wijen. (who did our logo as well)
  • Tools page with an step-by-step widget builder to add simpleweather to your site. Quite a few people have asked for this and we’re super excited to offer it.
  • We are now accepting private advertising on our unique platform that will be able to target people based on their location and even their upcoming weather conditions! If you or someone you know would be interested in advertising on simpleweather check out the details then contact us!
  • New hosting - We started to outgrow our previous hosting plan, so we’re moving up in the world to some better hardware in the form of Mediatemple’s Gridserver technology. This will allow us to keep the site fast loading with the ability to grow indefinitely.

    Mediatemple
  • Minor changes
    • Corrected sunrise/sunset dst problems
    • Added the last updated time so you know how current the data is
    • Changed how the “today’s high/low” works to make it more time of day aware. For example, at night it will now show “Overnight low”, and “Tomorrow’s high”.
    • Removed % chance of precipitation from current conditions. Doesn’t make sense to show the % chance that it’s raining at the current time. It either is, or it’s not.

If have any problems, or suggestions, let us know!
