morse code

Joe and I were talking today, wondering how the abbreviation of WX came about. In case you didn’t know, WX is short-code for weather that was originally used in the days of Morse code. It’s still used today as an abbreviation and NOAA labels its weather radio stations with a WX prefix.

Next time you visit Philadelphia, order a cheesesteak wif’ WX for a delicious sandwich and a weather forecast.

We got a suggestion by one of you to clarify what an forecast icon meant. I came up with a way to show some more information without compromising the site layout. To view more info simply put your mouse on the forecast icon.

  1. Click “Start” then choose “Control panel”
  2. Doubleclick on “Display”
  3. Select the “Desktop” tab, then click the “Customize Desktop” button
  4. Select the “Web” tab, then the “New” button
  5. In the location box type http://www.simpleweather.com then click ok
  6. Click ok again at the next “Add item to desktop” prompt
  7. Click ok twice to close the dialog boxes and you’re done!
